In memory of Hanna Havrylets: a concert-presentation of a sheet music collection
A concert featuring the music of Hanna Havrylets, performed by the Kyiv Choir, took place in Saint Sophia Cathedral to mark the release of the composer’s sheet music collection.
The dramatic and poignant music of Mrs. Hanna will now be available to the general public, thanks to the collection’s editor, the conductor of the Kyiv Choir, Mykola Hobdych. In the near future, Hanna Havrylets’ sheet music will be published online.
Sacred Shevchenko: Stankovych, Skoryk, Sylvestrov
On Taras Shevchenko’s birthday, March 9, at 5:00 PM, the Kyiv Chamber Choir, conducted by Mykola Hobdych, presented the program “Sacred Shevchenko: Stankovych, Skoryk, Silvestrov” at the Ukrainian House.
The concert program featured works by three Ukrainian musical geniuses — Yevhen Stankovych, Myroslav Skoryk, and Valentyn Silvestrov — set to the poetry of Taras Shevchenko, including chorales, psalms, and hymns.
Facsimile of three ancient books — “Apostles”
On February 8, an extraordinary event took place at the National Reserve “Saint Sophia of Kyiv” — the presentation of facsimiles of three ancient books, the “Apostles.” This was made possible thanks to Anna Horobets Publishing, the Voznytsky Charitable Foundation, the Center for Research and Revival of Volyn, and many benefactors and scholars.
The “Khrystynopil Apostle” is a unique parchment manuscript, copied in the lands of Rus’-Ukraine in the 12th century. The “Lviv Apostle,” or the Acts and Epistles of the Apostles by Ivan Fedorovych, is traditionally considered the oldest precisely dated book printed in Ukraine. The “Tesluhiv Apostle” of 1594 belongs to the Ukrainianized copies of the 1525 printed Apostle by Francysk Skaryna. Due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, the original manuscript is in danger and inaccessible to the public.
The concert is dedicated to Myroslav Skoryk’s 85th birthday
On January 28 and February 1, sacred works by Myroslav Skoryk were performed in the spiritual center of Ukraine — Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. These included the “Spiritual Concert,” composed in 1998, and “Three Psalms of David,” a work from 2003. This music captivates with both its musical refinement and profound spiritual depth.
